This conference provides a forum for land managers, their cooperators, and other interested parties to exchange information about natural and cultural resource research and cultural resource management activities at parks and protected areas in the western Great Lakes region.

Place and Time

The conference will be held April 17-18, 2012 at the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center, Ashland, Wisconsin. We will begin at about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, and end at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18.

The lunch sandwich bar will include a choice of meats, cheese, vegetables, and spreads, as well as a side salad, dessert, and soft drink or juice. Cash for your food items will be collected at check-in and you will receive a meal ticket with your conference packet. Sorry, we cannot take credit cards—cash or check only.

Focus on Mercury

Wednesday’s keynote address will be made by Dr. Jim Wiener, Distinguished Professor at the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse, and a partner with the National Park Service's contaminants monitoring program in the Great Lakes Network parks. Dr. Wiener will give an overview of current mercury research and then moderate a series of papers presented by others who are studying mercury in the environment. The individual presentations will be followed by a panel-style question-and-answer period. Six presenters have been invited.
