| Project Abstract: |
A set of approximately 1,500 black and white photos were taken of the Voyageurs National Park (VOYA) area in May of 1927, of which 800 are currently within VNP boundaries. This is the oldest known photographic set of the park. Because of its value to natural and cultural resources management, these photos will be scanned, georeferenced, and mosaicked for use as a GIS layer on a myriad of natural and cultural resource issues. In this project, Voyageurs staff and the Minnesota DNR's Resource Assessment Division will derive GIS map layers showing disturbance events, including fire and logging. Products from this project will contribute to development of the Great Lakes Network land cover/land use (LCLU) protocol and will ultimately stand as the earliest snapshot of land cover and use from which the Network will conduct change analyses. |
