Project Abstract: Michigan Tech University, the Great Lakes I & M Network (GLKN), and Isle Royale National Park (ISRO) will collaborate on the creation of an electronic research library for Isle Royale. This collaboration will be facilitated through the Isle Royale Institute, which is part of Michigan Tech. The ultimate goal of this project is to make Isle Royale's research documents more accessible to agency managers, researchers, and educators, as well as eventually making appropriate documents available to the public through the internet, with consideration for sensitive resource information and copyright laws. This will involve scanning paper documents and organizing electronic files within a database that is compatible with existing NPS bibliography databases. The Great Lakes Network will provide project guidance and technical assistance, and house copies of the electronic files. Isle Royale will provide assistance with accessing documents, workspace, and equipment. Michigan Tech and IRI will be primarily responsible for coordinating between partners, scanning documents, entering data, providing electronic files to the Great Lakes Network and Isle Royale, and facilitating increased use of research documents for educational purposes.
