In January of 2008 the three Parks around Lake Superior completed Emergency planning to prevent and contain the spread of viral hemorrhagic septicemia (VHS). There are treatment options available for all known vectors except ballast water. A review of the current literature to vet emergency quarantine options via a dye test is needed to determine how find an in-expensive treatment of ballast that meets Clean Water Act standards. This is a case where solutions are not known, thus working collaboratively to vet timely solutions is critical.
